The Lion Awakens by Buffy Andrews

For thirteen years, Annie Lange and David McClure believed their parents were killed in fiery car crashes. They learn the truth about the past when they find hidden messages in anonymous gifts left on their front porches. The notes lead them to a mentor who helps them discover and master their special powers, powers they will need if they have any chance of saving their world from the tyrant Goliath.

When the lion awakens, their world is forever changed...

My Review:
This fast paced YA fantasy drew me immediately into the story when teens, Annie and David, receive mysterious packages. Their lives are similar, each losing a parent, and when they meet their mentors, Gabriel and Peter, Annie and David discover they have special powers.
They learn of the parallel universe, ruled by a tyrant where their deceased parents have come from. That world is dying and even thought their scientists are far more advanced in medicine and technology they can’t stop the environmental crisis and Goliath, the president of the alternate universe, wants to take over ours.
Ms Andrews writes a fascinating story that will be appealing to the young reader. The fast paced novel will keep them interested and the teen humor and life experiences can be easily related to by the reader. Good job.

Meet Buffy:
A journalist by day and an author by night, Buffy Andrews loves telling stories. Some of her fiction ideas pop into her head at the most inopportune times, such as during a sermon or in the shower or when she’s supposed to be listening in a meeting. She’s written all over church bulletins, jumped out of the shower more than once to write down an idea and turned meeting handouts into story boards.
When she’s not writing, she’s leading an award-winning team of journalists at the York Daily Record/Sunday News in York, Pa., where she’s Assistant Managing Editor of Features and Niche Publications and the newspaper’s social media coordinator.
In addition to her writing blog, Buffy’s Write Zone, she maintains a social media blog, Buffy's World.  She is also a newspaper and magazine columnist and writes middle-grade, young adult and women's fiction.
She lives in southcentral Pennsylvania with her husband, Tom; two sons, Zach and Micah; and wheaten cairn terrier Kakita.

Wow Buffy. So happy to hear you jump out of showers to write down ideas. I thought I was the only one who would forget that fast. Happy to meet you!

I read that showers create negative ions, which encourage creativity! Other ways to enter the zone are walks, jogs, bike rides--physical energy seems to free your mind. You've come up with a plot sure to appeal to YAs.

Hi Buffy! It sounds like you write fairly quickly. How long does it take you to write a book?
